1. How often should I change the Air Filter in my system?

Check it at least every month during peak use, and replace it when it looks dirty enough to significantly impair the air flow through it. Some filters, such as media filters or electronic air cleaners, are washable; others are disposable and must be replaced. Filters are generally replaced every 3 months.

2. What is the best type of system to meet all Indoor Comfort needs?

The best system depends on many variables, including family size, house location and design, and utility cost and availability. The optimum indoor comfort system might include high efficiency central air conditioning and heating, a high-efficiency air cleaner, and a central humidifier.

3. When do I know it is time to replace my system?

When the system starts giving you more problems than seem cost-effective to fix, particularly when major components such as the compressor start making unusual noises or otherwise indicating need for a service call. When faced with major repairs, we can help you make the right choice. Replacing a compressor is somewhat less expensive than replacing the entire unit, but new units may give you greater efficiency and lower operating costs in the long run.

4. What is the difference between a High-Efficiency Furnace (90% and up efficient) and a Mid Efficiency Furnace (80% efficient) ?

The high-efficiency furnace has two heat exchangers and the mid-efficiency furnace has one heat exchanger.

5. What is the average life of a Central Air Conditioning system?

It can vary, depending on how much the system is used and how regularly it is checked or serviced. Generally, the average life of cooling units built in the 1970s and 1980s is about 15 years, but individual units may vary and last much longer, depending on use and how well they are maintained. Heat pumps have about the same life span-- an ARI survey showed average heat pump life to be about 14 years when recommended maintenance procedures were followed. Newer units are expected to last even longer.

6. What is the life expectancy of a Furnace?

Under normal circumstances, a furnace should last about 20 years.

7. What is the best kind of Thermostat for my Furnace?

Electronic thermostats are the best choice because they are more accurate. They are available in programmable or non-programmable models.

8. What causes Indoor Air problems?

Indoor pollution sources that release gases or particles into the air are the primary cause of indoor air quality problems in homes.

9. How would I determine an Indoor Air quality problem?

There are a number of ways: One is to observe how you and the members of your household feel. Do you experience sneezing and coughing while inside your home?

10. Why is a Furnace Filter necessary?

To protect the well-being of the individuals in the home, from common household pollutants such as dust and pollen.

11. What is a "Seer Number" when buying Central Air Conditioning?

The "seer number" is a measurement of the efficiency of the central air conditioning system. The higher the number - the higher it's efficiency.

12. I have a Hot Water Heater and I am used to it being quiet. How noisy are Ductless Air Conditioners?

A ductless air conditioning system consists of two components - an indoor fan unit and outside condensing unit. The sound levels of both machines are extremely quiet.

13. What is "Ductless" Air Conditioning?

Most people heat their homes with a forced air type system. Ductless air is widely used by people with hot water or electric heating.

14. Is a Ductless Air Conditioner capable of only cooling a single room?

Ductless air conditioners are available in different capacities and styles and can cool single rooms or an entire house.

15. How cool should I set my Thermostat?

In most cases the temperature is set between 22C and 25C degrees depending on the individuals comfort zone.

16. As a Home Owner, what maintenance can I do to my Air Conditioner to prepare for the summer season?

Use a garden hose to wash the outside air conditioner unit to get rid of dirt and other debris. It is very important that your furnace filter or air cleaner is free of dust and other debris to maximize air flow. Trim any bushes or other vegetation around the outside air conditioner to provide adequate air flow. Clean the surface of your air conditioner and apply several coats of automotive wax to keep your unit looking like new.

17. What is a "Media Air Filter"?

It is a pleated filter that is normally 16"x25" and 4" - 6" deep. The cartridge needs to be replaced every 10-12 months.

18. I run my Furnace on continuous fan mode, is that OK?

There are many benefits to running your fan continuously. Air is constantly circulated throughout the home and is constantly being filtered.
